0 The "SUPER FLEMISH" SERIES By Sacha Goldberger

What if Superman was born in the sixteenth century?
And what if the Hulk was a Duke?
How might Van Eyck have portrayed Snow White?

This art project took Sacha Goldberger 2 years (and with the aid of 110 people - including look-alike models and costume makers), to create, and the results are magnificent! The costumes are incredibly detailed and vibrant, and seeing Iron man or even Superman adorn in 17th century 'dresses', perplexes the mind in the most interesting yet positive of ways. Wolverine doesn't look as threatening anymore...

These portraits of fictitious American icons are replicated with the low-lit nuance typical to flemish fine art paintings of powerful nobles, emphasized by contrast with light and shadow to illustrate them within the scene.

From his site:

Sacha wants to confront these icons of American culture with contemporary painters of the Flemish school. The collection demonstrates the use of 17 century techniques counterpointing light and shadow to illustrate nobility and fragility of the super powerful of all times. It also invites you to celebrate the heroes of your childhood. These characters have become icons to reveal their humanity: tired of having to save the world without respite, promised to a destiny of endless immortality, forever trapped in their character.
